Thank you Uncle John for replying. I am very fond of this ADf# tuning. On my instructional video CD 6, I teach a system of movable chords that functions very similar to the approach used on 6 string guitar. In my opinon, this is by far the best approach, if you want to strum chords. Basically, there are 3 moveable chord shapes that will help you find the same chord in 3 positions on the fingerboard. These shapes are then altered to create a wide variety of chords like minor, 7th, 9th, etc. It is rather easy to learn, but it's application is vast. Enjoy your practice.

Keni Lee, the link to the Brownie McGhee is excellent.  Thanks.

Thanks on the 3 string (ADF) minor tuning also.  I just tried it and it works well.

LOL Ya, I found is funny how "Buck Owens" instead of "Jack Owens" popped into my mind.

Here is a wonderful video where Brownie McGhee discusses his playing style in association with the song Kansas City:  http://youtu.be/gkv0VdmieqA

Sure Uncle John.

Depending on your strings:

(Standard strings ADg)

Tune GDg retune to ADf# retune to ADf

Or

(Standard strings gbe)

Tune gbd retune to gbflatd

Enjoy.

Comment by Uncle John on March 30, 2012 at 2:02am

Keni, will it work reasonably with a 3 string?

Comment by Keni Lee Burgess on March 30, 2012 at 1:13am

Thank you everyone for replying. Of course, you can utilize this info on CBG too

Open Major Triad retune to Open Minor Triad:

Dgbd retune to Dgbflatd

Df#ad retune to Dfad

GDgb retune to GDgbflat

Enjoy your practice.
