Breaking in the new banjo and watching the cars go by. Thanks to Dave Lynas and Janis Wilson Hughes for their advice on building and skinning the pot. Worked like a charm.

Thank you Janis!  I did go with a neck through using a dowel kind of like a gourd banjo, and made a tapered peg/tailpiece to hold it all in place.  It ended up being far more secure than I thought it would.

I didn't have a big hose clamp like you did for your drum, so I improvised.  I punched some holes around the edge of the skin and laced it up with some cord.  I set it on the adjustable table on my drill press and laced the cord to the base, then raised the table to tension the head.  To keep it tight around the rim, I used zip ties in place of the hose clamp and waited for it to dry and trimmed off the excess.  I was sure it wouldn't work, but lo and behold...

Thanks for the inspiration, I have a few more pots that were just finished and I'm about to make some more.

Turtlehead, that's outstanding! It sounds fantastic, looks pretty, and you play it great! I'm so glad you went for it. I love it! How did you handle attaching the head and neck? I assume (but maybe I shouldn't) that you did a neck through, but how'd you glue the skin down around the neck? I'm so glad I saw your post. I'm not around that often, so this might have just slipped by. This is sweet! Really nice work.

Thanks so much everybody.  I'm very pleased!

I've always wanted to do the turtle shell version Clock, hopefully one of these days.  My potter was so happy with how it turned out, she's making several more pots soon. Fun stuff!
