A recent modification of a build done back in July 2017, originally had a Lipstick Single Coil Pup and one of those awful Piezo Discs, used a Blend Pot and Tone, but obviously those 2 types of Pups aren’t meant to be used together in that way, it was a failure, now has a 6k Tele Type Neck Pup wired through Vol & Tone to the Jack.
The “Red River Valley Rift” sound sample is played through 3 different Amps, the first one as clean as I could get it through a Roland Micro Cube, the second through a Boss Katana 50, with a various effects, and the third through a Fender Mustang II, using the Metal 2000 setting. :-)

The 1 finger chord route is a good idea Doug, but as most of my Builds are Fretless, I think I'll stick to the One Finger Slide :-)
You can always go the 1-finger chord route like the Slingers. I never cease to be amazed how well power chords do when substituting for 7th, minor, and m7th chords. You might want to give it a try, if you haven’t already AGP, it might surprise you. Otherwise, slide on!!!
"Thanks Doug", I'm finding it hard to stay out of the shed, so I'm currently modifying another previous build, I find the Slide Versions easier and more simple to play, mainly due to a bit of arthritis in the fingers. :-)
"Thanks Derek", Yep! I agree with your Grand Pappy, it's a Good ole easy going Gene Autry Country Tune, I've used that Vine Pattern White Oak Fretboard on many of my earlier builds, but unfortunately the local hardware mob no longer stock it, which is a bummer, because I really like the look of it. :-)
"Thanks for the tips "BQ", the Blend Pot and Piezo Disc are in the Rubbish Bin, but I will do a 2 Mag Pup Build soon, using a Blend Pot, hopefully with a bit more success this time. :-)
So many choices, so little time AGP! Your slider versions are quite a contrast to the plain Slingers version. That’s what is fun about making music.
I can understand when you have to answer the call. Sometimes you have to let the shed have it’s way with you!
That is a sharp looking build, Alan, especially the fingerboard. Sounded great each way you played it. This song always reminds me of my grandfather who liked this song and how he would watch westerns with me.
Yea, you’ll need an active preamp for a piezo to reach the output of the mag pups? Mag pickups have a more balanced tone, which makes them way more versatile than piezos, plus they’re tons louder!!
"Thanks UJ", the reason for dragging the little 18" scale CBG, out of storage and modifying it, was prompted by some questions about string gauges, on the only other CBG site I subscribe to, which is a Fretless one!
It's the exact opposite down here, we've had a couple of hot and humid stinkers for the last few days, you can probably hear a fan going in the Vid, and I can assure you I was bit hot and sticky myself, but!, just after filming this one a big ole thunder storm swept through, and cooled things down a bit with 2 inches of rain. :-)
"Thanks A.D.", the Mustang is my favourite go to Amp, when first playing a new build, and is definitely my favourite "Noisy-Grungy-Dirty-Style" Amp. :-)
