I like the idea of building then playing and really like the unique instruments i've seen. Also think building own will allow me to space strings to suit my arthritic hands.

Number Four

Posted on May 23, 2018 at 1:59pm 2 Comments

For number four I used my last Winterman's box and a piece of oak for the neck.  Didn't realise oak would be so hard to work......  I faced the headstock off with a piece of cedar from a broken box to match the body.  This one's a 25.5 inch scale acoustic (no piezo this time).  The string spacing is a little wider than usual just to see if it's any better for fingerpicking with my arthritic fingers.…

Number Three

Here's a pic of my first attempt at a CBG.  I built this at a workshop by a local guy Cigarbox Sounds.  Great workshop and I came away with a playable fretless CBG.

I've a feeling this may get…

Yes it can get addictive.  I built my first CBG 4 and a half years ago because I didn't want to shell out the bucks to buy one. I've now built 55 instruments.  Unfortunately that's it for a couple of years while I go off to college where I don't have any space to build them or house tools & supplies. Have fun with your next 50 builds!
