Been a while since I last posted on here. fair enough most of what I build is for sale and I don't want it to look like I am on here to advertise, but this build here is a personal one and one I have been planning for for years. It is a Micro Bass, for those that don't know thats a super short scale Bass guitar, similar in size to a Ukulele bass; in this case the scale is 25.5 inches, the same as a standard Strat or a Tele. it started by mistake, when I bought the neck I thought the short scale…See More

JP Lace Master replied to Jon's discussion string gauge for short scale cbg
"I have by the oddest of coincidences just built a 4 stringer with an 18.5 inch scale. traditionally on a shorter scale guitar, you need to use heavier gauge strings so the tension of the strings is right for the scale, but this is for the sake of…"

"Hi Taff, thank you kindly. the nut is glued into place and sits in a lowered ridge on the neck, but I guess it can be removed to shorten the scale. I lengthen the scale by just moving the bridge back nearer the tailpiece, the bridge is held down…"

Finally finished: 6 String Broom handle Cigar Box

you guys have heard me talk about this thing already, so I'll just give the new details of the finished project.I sprayed the body and the neck itself and it made the wood and the even the ply itself come up very nicely, especially the top lid, it looks beautiful. I had some trouble with the nut and eventually had to swap it for a rather fat bolt, it works, but I would of preferred an actual nut for this. once I had it together I had some trouble with the electrics, the ground and the hot kept…See More

6 String Broom Handle Cigar Box

had an unexpected week off so I thought I'd get it done before winter comes. still got one or 2 things left to do, but this is what I got done so far. just need to round off the edges and corners, spray the body in a lot of clear lacquer, mount the nut and jack plate and string it up. I made the box, myself, the top is 3/4 inch ply the sides are some thick pieces of pine and the back lid is 1/2 inch ply, which has hinges and catches. I like to get into the bodies, makes for easier…See More

"I'd layout the neck with the box, measure out your desired scale length, then you'll have an idea where the bridge goes.   Then you may need to tweak the neck placement in the box (ie- longer or shorter neck tail length) to get…"

Well, the one I have made is made of a Biscuit Tin, whether you can call that a Cigar Box guitar, I don't know, but the tone when played acoustically is beautiful
