Ok anie thanks for letting me know about the show

oh my workshop is my bedroom no i'm not kidding you it's for real , when the weathers good like today i can work outside
i have two sheds also but ones full of tools which i just bought last month , a bandsaw , Bench planer , and a thicknesser so thats full and i need to pull the machine tools outside to work on them !!, and the other shed has my wood lathe pillar drill which i have not been able to use for quite some time because they are burried under loads of rubbish which needs a good sorting but i'm getting round to it ,
So this is why i work in my bedroom lol!! i posted pics of my bedroom/workshop on the yahoo forum under the name soundssogood , have a look if you dare lol!!
i wish i just had somewhere big enough to sel all my tools out , somewhere i could just walk around in lol!!...oh well such is life eh!!
bye for now

Hi Ani
Check out this link to the video of the montecristo build i made
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=--yWJhGPjC0
this should awnser all your questions regarding the Bracing
the first two builds i made i used the lid of the box for the top of the Guitar and glued the lid shut , but my last two builds i have used the Lid as the back of the Guitar - this way the guitar can still be opend and any mods or upgrades can still be carried out
Hope this helps
Now stop arguing and go watch the video haha!!
have a good weekend
juju.

Hi Ani i have done a drawing for you i hope this sheds some light on the neck for you , the neck timber size i have shown is 43mm wide by 25 mm thick , also i have shown a 5mm thick fretboard - this will add strength to the neck and also makes more angle from the Tuners to the nut - if you dont have enough angle between the tuners and nut you will get string buzz . i have also added a link to the Stewmac Fret calculator - this will calculate fret measurments in inch or milimetres - just put in what Fret scale you want and how many frets you would like , the calculator will do the rest for you Remember fret measurments are always measured from the back side of the nut or the nearest side to the fretboard , measure each fret position from the nut not from fret to fret If your not using frets you can still use the fret calculator but instead of putting a fret at the said position you can draw/ paint a line so you know what position your at on the scale when your playing hope this is what your after if not just give us a shout juju.

Hi Ani
Sorry but i never use any plans , just make the build up as i go , as regards the neck - First build i ever made , i just copied the scale length and fret spacings from my Epiphone Les Paul which has a 25" scale , and it worked a treat , and now i use a bought Fret saw and mitre box which i bought from StewMac in the USA , give me a little time and i'll try and find you some usefull links to help you on your way

Hi Ani...simplest is a 7mm square steel bar from (diy places like B&Q will have it), and it doesn't put any stress on the neck like a trussrod does..in fact one or two top notch luthiers like Dave King do solid bar reinforcement on their guitar necks. Bes tof luck, and have fun.

Saw your post about tenor guitar style cigar box guitar..I've done several. If you are doing a fully shaped and fretted conventional neck, I'd put in either a truss rod, or my preferred solution is to install a 7mm square steel bar in the neck, Araldited into a slot routed into the neck blank as a fixed reinforcement. If you are going for an unfretted and unshaped neck, then you can afford to leave more 'meat' in it and do it one piece unreinforced..depends on what you want at the end of the day and how much work you want to put in.

Hello anne
First of all thank you for the comment on my #2 build glad you like it - it's the one i always seem to pick up first when i'm trying to play lol!!

No problem with the offer of help that's what we are all about on the Nation we all help each other anyway we can
so your planning a build the big number 1 , main thing is is to enjoy it the first one is always a learning curve just start simple and get a feel for what your doing , just take it nice and slow theres no race lol.

i would suggest making a fretless to start with , and always remember when working with wood ect "measure twice cut once" lol!!
Hope all goes well for you - don't forget if you need any help we are all here to help each other
regards
juju.
