Thanks John. Actually the paint can is really easy to attach into the box. Basically all I had to do was cut a 6" hole with my drill press hole saw and the paint can lid fit perfectly inside like the seal of the can itself by friction. Then all I had to do was undercut the through neck so there was about 1/4" gap between the lid and the "spike" of the neck. Kinda like a banjo. Good luck bud!

Thanks for your kind comments. Not sure which piece of music you were referring to but if playing in E I use the 4,5,6 strings from a 10 or 12 guage. For open G or A I use 3,4,5 strings

you are correct sir--the bourbon is over rated-- but i got the tins emptied out fer me cause i got them on e-bay fer cheap. i looked for them there first cause i get a lot of cigar boxes there. the sound is really better than i expected it to be. just built it yesterday so i gonna play around wit it and learn me a tune from it then put a sound hole or 2 in it and prolly do a lil short video with it. thanks john take care.

Thank you John for your comment and sharing. Trying to do too much is like a bee going from flower to flower. You never really stay long enough to get the nectar. Doing less actually becomes more. Staying focused on one path and not going off onto to many tangents leads to the goal. I agree, we all have to be reminded about the simple truths of life from time to time. Enjoy.

Thank you John for your kind words. Blind Willie Johnson's You're Gonna Need Somebody On your Bond is one of my favorite tunes. I think it worked out real nice for this interview. Enjoy.

Thanks, I've been playing for, ohhhh about 29 years. Still not where I want to be musicly speaking. Love to play though. This cigar box thing renewed my passion for playing, I'm glad I found it!

Hi John,
How are things up in Harlan? I just delivered three cookie tin banjos to three of my young grandkids. They were thrilled to get them, their mother was thrilled a bit less!
Actually, she was tickled that I had made them for the kids and I have promised her that I won't give them any that can be hooked up to an amp! The youngest is the one that got the one you mentioned. She is four and was very proud of her new banjo. There are several of us out here in Iowa doing cigar box guitars and tin banjos, you just don't hear much out of us because we are too busy building. I'm glad you found this site and welcome to the insane world of cigar box guitar building! Bob H.

Welcome aboard, John! You will find lots of helpful folks and information here on all things CBG (CBU, CBB, etc.) Feel free to poke around, ask questions, and post your stuff (photos, recordings, videos, etc.).

Up in the Free Resources menu at the top, you will see a number of plans for building and playing cigar box guitars/ukuleles/banjos/dulcimers/violins. I encourage you to download any of the plans, take a look at them, and ask questions from there. Also our site is VERY searchable. I bet you your questions have already been asked, so take a few moments and look around.

Join our Chat sometime (see the bar at the bottom of your browser page). Keep in mind that tho the chat window says there are X number of people online, not all may have the chat window up.

Most of all, have fun!

-Wes
