Thanks for the comments on the Mayorga Four String
i made the tail mainly with hand tools Hacksaw , files and various grades of emry cloth abrasives , finished it off with 000 gauge steel wool and did the final polish with Auotosol metal polish applied with a cloth then buffed by hand - the final stage was to add the flute down the middle which i did on my milling machine - the two Torx screws go through the tail and have a spring on each under the tail to stop any rattles ect the bottom end of the tail is held in place by the tension of the strings
Thank you for joining my group. Currently, I have been posting the new series of lessons (How to Play 3 string CBG Part 2) publicly on my page. Please visit www.ebay.com and search: keni lee if you would like to the see the auctions for my series of instructional video CDs. Please feel free to write if I can be of any assistance. Enjoy, Keni Lee
hello there
Thanks very much for the comments on my website and Guitars - as regards my website this is the only one i have had - i have alterd it around a little so maybe thats what your thinking about ?
regarding the Resonator and the Tune yes there was a slight bit of reverb but not much at all the magnetic pickups do pickup sound from the strings and in turn the reso cone it's not the same tone as you would get from a regular six string guitar - look at it this way tone on a solid bodied guitar differs depending on what wood the Body and neck are made from all which is picked up through vibration in the strings and guitar the same applies to a resonator the strings are plucked the vibration goes through the bridge into the Resonator cone which produces sound - well since the cone and strings are vibrating the magnetic pickup picks up both sounds
as it happens i am just making some prototype humbuckers for the natianol Resonators for the very purpose of amplifing the reso sound - these have been a special request from some top guys in the know so i hope they work ok lol!
the mini reso was all made by myself took forever to build could have made a full size on in less time hehe!
Fitzhugh -- Looks like we're friends now; good deal! As for a cd, I do now have a cd of sorts: It's just the same ten songs on my Cigar Box Nation page in a somewhat different order. And it's just all self-recorded on my PC using Audacity (free recording software), then copied onto a CD-R disc, so nothing professional about it. If you want a copy, though, shoot me an e-mail at tktreadway@aol.com and tell me where to send it. Good luck with the truss rod issues!
Fitzhugh, I was just rereading the gracious comments you left on my page some time ago, and just wanted to thank you for them. I remember being basically speechless at the time, and as I recall, I tried to add you as a friend, but I don't see you on my "friends" list. Should I try again? Anyway, thanks again; and, when are we going to see that finished CBG (or is it a CBB?) of which you've got pix of the neck only? Great looking neck, by the way!
I don't think it's silly at all. It's funny what douche bags people can turn into on the Internet. I keep a blog and have idiots telling me how stupid and off-base I am, and, I must admit, some days it makes me wonder whether or not I am. The Internet is a vicious place, sometimes. Because of my experiences, I speak up when I see ignorant and unwarranted criticism. I found what you wrote much more helpful than anything else I'd seen at that point. People just tend to think that if it doesn't work for them, then it's stupid and won't work, period. And, if you disagree, lookout.
Fitzhugh -- I just responded to your question about "Foothills Stomp", but it ended up on my page, not here. Not sure if the question was rhetorical, but here's what I said:
Glad you like it Fitzhugh! It's an original tune. Unless maybe I unconsciously swiped it from somewhere, which is possible. If you ever identify it, let me know!
I agree, it should be easy to get some othrs to pitch-in. I would also be great if we could get some of the "how to " CDs donated as well. Coordinating the effort is the main thing so we get the right numbers of guitars to the right places. I"ll write more later. Thanks for the interest.
Fitzhugh,
Saw your interest in doing some CBGs for vets. I was thinking of a couple of ways to go at the start. One is to send them to VA hospitals or some of the ones for returning wounded vets such as Bethesda in Maryland or Willford Hall in San Antonio, TX. The other place to send them are to USOs that are in every major airport across the country. Whether it be hospitals or the USOs, there are folks with some down time that might want to pick up a CBG and start playing. My preference is to send them to the hospitals first, and in particular those with rehab facilities. They say music is one of the best ways to reach folks with brain injuries so that got me thinking. I'm open to any ideas you may have. Thanks for the interest. Mark
