Hey-

I listened to your songs, really enjoyed them! You have a lot of talent with the cbg as well as the singing. Thanks for sharing!

Hi Ken...thanks for the comment! The cbg definitely gives you that sound that takes you back to the early delta blues days ! Have a good one

Ken,

As requested, here's the lyrics:

Shaken, Not Stirred

Baby wants a diamond ring, but I don't really know
If that's really my kinda thing, or the place I wanna go
She gets me so uptight, y'all, every time I hear that word
Her thinkin' starts me drinkin'; gonna fire up my Lincoln, leave her shaken, not stirred

Later in de evenin',
Considerin' I'm leavin'
I ain't no good at grievin'
Or cryin' all night long

They say she's kinda crazy
She sez I'm kinda lazy
It's all kinda hazy
Where we started goin' wrong

It leaves me shaken, not stirred
The woman gotta word
Sh-sh-sh-shaken, not stirred

Baby wants a new car, 'steada cruisin' on her feet
She needs a new vacation, cuz the old one left her beat
My credit card is maxed out, and my limit is absurd
Her conspicuous consumption's just consumed all my gumption, leaves me shaken, not stirred

Later in de evenin',
One of us is leavin'
There ain't no point in grievin'
Or cryin' all night long

They say she's kinda crazy
She sez I'm kinda lazy
It's all kinda hazy
Where we started goin' wrong

It leaves me shaken, not stirred
The woman gotta word
Sh-sh-sh-shaken, not stirred

(Harp verse)

Later in de evenin',
One of us is leavin'
There ain't no use in grievin'
Or cryin' all night long

They say she's kinda crazy
She sez I'm kinda lazy
It's all kinda hazy
Where we started goin' wrong

It leaves me shaken, not stirred
The woman gotta word
Sh-sh-sh-shaken, not stirred

Baby wants to have a kid, I wanna new guitar
Don't really matter to her what I did when I went down to that bar
She never would believe me, no, she'd never take my word
That the redheaded girl upon my lap just left me shaken, not stirred

Later in the evenin',
She's thinkin' 'bout leavin'
There ain't no use in grievin'
Or cryin' all night long

They say she's kinda crazy
She sez I'm kinda lazy
It's all kinda hazy
Where we started goin' wrong

It leaves me shaken, not stirred
The woman gotta word
Sh-sh-sh-shaken, not stirred

It's a real damn shame
This finger-pointin' game

It's enough to make you scream
This California dream

You all know what I mean
This whole romantic scene

It's taken us too long
It's just that kinda song

Cheers Kenneth

I love that piece, it's powerful alright and perfect for slide I reckon. As for the tone I just played into an audio interface and used an amp simulator from Logic on the recorded track. The monitor sound was clean and I didn't actually hear the overdrive until after I'd recorded it. Maybe that made me push it a bit harder, who knows. It was all done in a bit of a hurry, came out OK though, Cheers.

Thanks, man!  Yeah, I love the Delta.  I don't get up there as much as I would like, but it always an adventure when I do.  I'm working on my first CGB now.  Wish me luck!

Hi Kenneth. Thanks for the comment. I recently bought one similar to this one.

In fact I have two. They look similar but one works better than the other. I haven't used one of these (below) but they look good and I might get one.

Of course there is always the pencil and elastic bands, but I think the purpose built ones are more convenient, except that you can't write with one. Hope this helps.

All the best.

John

BTW, I have bought literally hundreds of dollars worth of strings from JustStrings over the years. Great folks, great service, they can do unusual mixed string sets...check em out.

Ken, Doubt if i'll turn a dime, but thanks. I've learned to thrive on low expectations. My reward will be seeing my old friends and playing and seeing their reactions to the box guitars. Wish i could take each one down off the wall and play it, however the mounting is a bit tricky. Hung like paintings off a rod and rail. I'll have something interesting to play. I've just been listening to you on your King of Hearts and then spun off onto Lipscome, Son House, and Mississippi John Hurt. I met and partied with Mississippi back in my art school days. He came and played at our school and wanted to party after the show. He played at the party and nocked us all out. I like your videos. Thanks

Ken, I've got a show coming up with many of my box guitars on display (for the first time). There will be my pottery as well as that has been my profession since 1991. The show will be at "The Old School Art Center" in Sandstone MN with the opening on Friday night. Our band the Procrastinators will play there as well. Should be fun and maybe the soul will show through. Think good thoughts for me and pick a little too. .... Dave

Ken, The jams are my religion. The older i get, the more they mean to me. The song circle is not world affairs or politics. It's pure heart and listening and singing like the early morning birds. Something deep down inside comes out, playing beyond my ability at times, channeling some old player from the 30's, enjoying like minded loonies. That's how i want to go out, on a tuneful note.....

Hey Ken, Just got back from our Monday night jam session. I love it because of the ever changing group and dynamics, like the alternative tunings. You get a chance to play many different tunes and kinds of music. I brought my Kay Speed Demon. It plays so good. If you ever want to play in some out of sight tunings, try lap steel Hawaiian tunings. Wow they are way cool. I've made several lap steels and got some vintage Oahus, Harmonies, Supros and a Gibson BR9. All 6 strings. They play themselves when in one of their tunings. I love the mellow sound. Keep on pickin...... Dave

Hi Ken, Ya i love that tuning. For me it started with a G strumstick. It's a 3 string tuned GDG. Then i got a nice old Vega tenor banjo and kept the simple tuning. Adding the GDGD (from top to bottom). Then i got D strum stick (longer scale length) tuned DAD. Then i found the D tuning worked good on the tenor banjo: DADA. With these two tunings i can play in every key with simple fingerings for chords. It's a bit of a stretch to play a C chord in the G tuning but i'm used to it now. I use it for bluegrass, jazz, blues, folk, Irish and country. I play in two bands, The Procrastinators (jug band) and The Merry Little Band (Irish dance band). I've got a bazookie (sp?) that i tune in the same tunings. If you'd like i could do some tab for you to see the chord patterns. ... Dave
