Hi Jim. I was hoping to pick your brains about the CB Mandos you make... my fiancee has asked me to make one for her and I need a few pointers :) I've sent a friend request.
Hi Jim. I used Sibelius which is a very meaty program and doesn't come cheap. There are other but most don't do 3 string TAB. An exception is Progression for the iPad, they may do one for other systems as well.
I'd be happy to TAB out your arrangements, although can't guarantee they'll be as quick as the last one. Would you mind if I hosted a copy of them on my site as well, LearnCigarBoxGuitar.com, I'd offer them free and credit you with the arrangements.
I will probably never build a "real" fiddle. But I do like the idea of taking a lost, beater of a violin and putting it in some sort of working order and handing it off to some kid who might love it and play the hell out of it.
What a great vid! Your fiddle sounds better than my one does, for sure. Mine loses tone in the low strings.
I was surprised that the poobahs were not even interested in the hardanger conversion. Plus, I worked on the octave violin I have going while I was at the workshop, and they were helpful but not enthusiastic. Ah, well! I sure learned lots of trick on how to make a real fiddle play as best it can, and that will be a great help. It was a wonderful workshop, regardless. Up in Madison, WI, five days of tweaking and rebuilding.
I wish it WAS me! Maybe someday I'll get to Clifftop and we'll play a few tunes!
I brought my CBfiddle to a violin repair workshop just last week. The attendees were impressed, but the folks who were teaching the class -- not so much! Har!
Mr. Morris, I'm embarrassed, but you sent me a message over a year ago and I never seemed to have seen it until today. I don't know if it was lost in the internet or I am just blind, but I am indeed, even now still looking for a good cigar box fiddle & if you still make them, I'm very interested. Can you contact me by my e-mail, cirkus7866@aol.com to make sure we get in touch? I apologize, but hope to make contact, even at this late date! Thanks!
It is called Festival of the Rivers here in Hinton, and it will be over Labor Day weekend. There will be live music and I will be conducting a CBG workshop both days.
thanks jim for your comments,i am familiar with jason romero as a banjo builder and he has some really nice banjo,s very high end stuff.i dont think we are related but i watched a cool video of the romero banjo company recorded and interviewed by frets magazine and i can honestly say that jason looks like one of my brothers from louisiana. thanks again.

Hey! Nice to see there are fellow So. MDer's here. And yup Slowhound is donating some boxes to the camp which I think is so great!
Thanks so much for your support Jim, I can tell I'm gonna like it here at CBN =)
Tassie is a spectacular part of the world, make sure you look me up when you're down.
If you post some vids on youtube and send me the links then I can tab 'em out like I did before. No rush though, I'm flat out for a little while.
Cheers

Glad to have you as a Nation friend Jim. You are a true inspiration for all of us old time/bluegrass pickers.
