I'm in. You know I write my own stuff. There is a CBN Songwriters Group here, called Songwriting 101, run by a guy named John Wendell out of Nashville, who claims to have written with Jack Keller. There hasn't been much activity on it for about a year. Uncle John, Slowpaw Steve, myself, and a few others initially signed up, but it doesn't seem to have gone anywhere, possibly because Mr. Wendell links directly to www.songwriternation.com . I smell someone trolling for commercial reasons, but Uncle John checked him out online and he seems to be legit.

Anyway, I like your idea, and am willing to help anyway I can. You've already got a couple of albums out, and have ASCAP membership, so you already have waaay more experience at this than me. I'm pretty sure ASCAP has some groups or workshops on both the publishing and business ends of things like you're suggesting.  I'm just now, after 25 years of desultorily saying I was gonna do it "next year," putting together my first album of originals, prompted by renewed interest in songwriting through CBGs.

The Townes compilation has kinda acted like a dry run for that, in part. What I see happening here a lot at CBN is a vast chaotic mishmash of creativity, with lots of people posting vids of songs, as opposed to just recorded songs, or even just lyrics. I do all of those, but probably write more lyrics than anything else, usually in response to something that happens here. A central song clearinghouse here at CBN is a good idea in principle, but I'm not certain how it would work in practice. But I'm willing to help.

There are songwriting groups and collabs by members that pop up from time to time who come out with some great results, though in the grand scheme of things unless there is another Blues boom we are pretty well playing to ourselves!

A publishing company would be a good idea for music promotion and copyright protection, but hypothetically  if one of the 'big boys' wanted to steal one of my songs there isn't much i do about it without financial backing, but as a group the promotion side of things could work, and ideas for songs and workshop competitions  would be a good idea. (-:
