I know this site is mostly about CBGs and home made instruments. But, this time of the year, is Mardi Gras season where I reside. Most people just think of NOLA when they think of Mardi Gras. That's glitz and Aristocracy. My folks came from the rural parts of LA, where the tradition of revelry, was making fun of the Aristocracy lol. That's where the tall cone shaped hats come in lol. The old music is played a lot this time of year.

Also, in Eunice, LA, is the Prairie Acadian Cultural Center, which is part of the Jean Lafitte National Park system. This 2019 video of Eunice Revelers at a residence is a lovely rendition of La Danse de Mardi Gras (The Mardi Gras Song) The Eunice Mardi Gras run features both female and male revelers, where as other communities are only male. In fact, some of the ladies in this example are "capitans", the keep the group respectful. This tradition has been going on for a very long time. what you don't see in this video, since it's black and white cinematography, is all the extremely bright colors they are actually wearing. You can YT search other videos/slide shows of the costumes in color.

It seems I vaguely remember a square instrument on display at the PACC, but, it's been a pretty long time since I've been there (pre 2006), and I may be confusing it with some where else I've visited in the Carolinas and Tennessee. On the pic for their site, there is the music instrument display, with wash tubs, and an old fiddle very visible.

Just wanted to share, and hope you all enjoy, cause, tis the Season :D

I found those links quite late, but I can dig it for sure.  I would feel more at home with those rural folks than in NOLA.
