European Tour with Hollowbelly..part the Second

After my mammoth posting last time, I thought I'd keep this post a little shorter. Our next destination was Asten, in Noord Brabant, Netherlands...to stay with with Ozzy Van Der Loo. We'd never met, but he'd done all the arranging of our gigs and the workshop in Belgium and Southern Holland, so we reckoned he was an on-the-ball sort of guy. We were warmly received by his partner Jolanda, and very shortly afterward Ozzy turned up, and we were introduced to Thomas, their 8 year old son, who…

This thing

I guess as far as addictions go this is not a bad one to have. I had surgery yesterday morning and was in the cellar laying out out a rat rod build last night. Now I'm up early and since I'm off work, guess what I'm anxious to get back to??  I don't have much in the way of power tools so not too concerned about being doped up a bit, feeling creative somehow.

My first European Tour - on the road with Hollowbelly

Well...as the words to a Hollowbelly song go, we knew it would be a "Long Long Road". It was all planned out in a very short time, so our itinerary was a bit random, but we were up for it. A couple of days before the off, my car had to go to the garage to be repaired as the ignition lock barrel had broken...so I had to nervously wait for the "dealer only" parts to arrive, and I got it back in the nick of time on Wednesday night, ready for an early start on Thursday.

A steady drive…

I don't want to reinvent the wheel. Little help!

Hi guys, I am an absolute glutton for punishment. I am doing my own boxes now and at first I thought I was going to use a nice 3mm thick plywood for tops and back and continue doing neck through method but that leaves me with floating bridges and I want some glued on bridges and am thinking about either a mortise and tenon or bolt on with a neck block.  I am wondering if any of you would care to elaborate on your method of neck attachmeent and specifically things that you found that did and…

HELP somebody!

Dear CBG friends, I' a musician from the far Europe, Hungary, lute, guitar and cigar box guitar player, and I'm looking for a tune that I hope you can help me to find. This is a rag tune, I can't remember its title, nor the composer's name, my uncle, who was a piano player played it in a Ragtime Band on stage 35 years before. Unfortunately he had already forgotten the title and the composer too, the only one I can recall is the tune. I made a midi file scoring the tune with some…

Howlin Dick's podcasts

Please check out Howlin' Dick website. One of this podcasts included my recording of "If I had possession over judgement day" www.howlingdick.com/page/4/  Thanks Dick, very encouraging. Especially since it was just a demo to test my Zoom R16 recorder. I'm going to record an album later this year, after I finished building my new three string.

Madurobob on TV

The TV station uses the ooyala player on its website, and requires java script in the embed code.  Apparently the nation's server can't handle it.

Here is a link to the page with the video:

In making a uke pickup, I made a banjo pickup

The dude who plays banjo in my band forgot his contact pickup. Since we wanted to hear him during practice I grabbed one of the uke pickup s I make. Used making tape to attach it between the bridge and tailpiece on the banjo's head.

And

It sounded terrific! I was floored. Didn't appreciably alter the sound of the banjo - still sounded like a banjo. Plugged directly into the PA. A little eq and it was perfect.

Now I have to make one specifically…
