Finished my first cbg last week. Looks pretty good but sounds like crap. I had to restring it several times until I got it right. Any suggestions? Also, I can't play a guitar, would that have anything to do with it?

how big should the sound holes be? several small ones or one big one (1/2 to 3/4 inch)

The neck is solid maple. the fretboard is bolivian mahogany. the box is redwood frame with aromatic cedar for the soundboard and bottom,redwood bracing, and custom bridge and tailpiece.It is fretted at 26 inches. I haven't quite figured out what strings to use yet, but I think it needs some fat ones to bring out the tone.
