I have a nascent blues song in my notebook with lyrics that start:
I've got an ocean of gin to the right of me, I've got a river of whiskey to my left,
And just like a donkey, for the life of me,
I can't figure which one is best.
I feel just like a stubborn donkey,
Stuck between two bales of hay,
No matter which way I turn my head,
I have to let something sweet slip away.
I'm thinking about my next build: I have a reasonably nice white Macanudo box (maybe these are Shane Speals' favorites?) which I would like to make into a "nicer" box for a friend's birthday.
I scrounged a bunch of old oak screen panels, one of which had a cool oak "pull" on it, which I am thinking of using as the bridge. The piece is about 3/4" high, which seems a bit high for the standard "flush neck" design, so I'm thinking to drop the neck down below the top and add a… Continue
I spent most of the day yesterday in the shop, working on two projects: my first "real" CBG (more on that later), plus updating the "Doodle Bass" CBB my son and I built while on vacation a couple of weeks back. We made the following tweaks to his bass:
Replaced the "E" string (old one doubled the "A" at .090") with .105" weed whacker line.
Added a piezo pickup inside the box under the bridge sandwiched between two thin pieces of…

Thanks! Your build looks sweet. I bought myself a bowl from a resale shop and some bloodwood to make a simplified sitar. I'm having trouble finding a "top" to the bowl though. Maybe a circular cutting board...?

Thanks Tres, I'm currently building 4 different CBG's and 2 Cajone's. I want to start up an all CBG Band up here in Alaska. I think it will be a real hoot up here in all of the coffee shops and fair venues we have up here. Later ............... Your Great Alaskan Sourdough CBG Band.................. ............
Thanks for the welcome. I am involved in several instrument communities. I love instruments and building them. I have been a luthier for many years. I have worked with wood since I was in my teens. I have played an instrument since I was 5 years old. I don't know if I play any better now than I did then. I do play madolin and fiddle at church each Sunday. I had some folks over today and we ate chili, banana pudding and played music all day. Anyway thanks George
