One aspect of this addiction which has huge appeal to me is the DIY angle, making homemade music on homemade instruments. Taking it a step further, I have seen many homemade tools which help form the…Continue

Giving junk a voice and allowing it to sing

Statistics indicate that cigar box guitar builders are 47.4% more awesome than the general population.

And statistics never lie. But statisticians do. And if you took all the statisticians in the world and laid them end-to-end, they'd be a whole lot more comfortable.

Old Builds Found in an Antique Store

Posted on July 20, 2020 at 2:42am 7 Comments

We recently moved to a new area. This past Saturday stopped in to an antique store and was smitten by this diddly bow. The huge single-tuner is very cool... wish I had a better shot to show it to you guys. The tag indicated is was from the 1930's.

And check out the old home-made fiddle. No background info on it.…

No, this is not specifically CBG related, so feel free to move on.

In addition to my CBG hobby/addiction I have always had a passion for reading. I am finding this book to be quite interesting. Although I have no aspirations to be a 'real artist', I do find that I desire to create interesting roots instruments; many more than I need so I try to sell them. Some friends like them, buy them, or commission me to build for them, so I find myself selling art.

ONE YEAR IN

Posted on February 2, 2016 at 9:00am 1 Comment

About a year ago I bumped into this video on a cold winter day:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BgiZ_A6objs

I was smitten. After scrounging a bunch of parts, and buying a few, my first CBG came to be. I am now about 12 instruments in with about 4 or 5 additional builds going.

Just wanted to thank you guys for all the input, encouragement, and 'rules' :)
