Thanks for the YouTube links for the Asian instruments,  They do seem to be in the same family as the Thailand three stringer I have.  I'm going to make a bridge and put new strings on it for the owner, a friend of mine. Even with thold strings and a piece of aluminum for a bridge it had a sound very similar to the one on the links you sent.  Thank you for your help!
