Biography

Hello! Thanks for stopping by!

My name is Norm Fasey. I have been a musician on and off since 1976 when I played in various punk bands in London and played venues such as The Roxy, The Rock Garden etc. I have been in bands who have been the support act to such punk bands as Siouxsie and The Banshees, XTC and the Police.

Got my first guitar in 1975 at the age of 14. A nylon stringed classical guitar. This was closely followed by a Jedsen Electric and an Audition Practice amp from Woolworths. I then did my time playing the Bert Weedon way in my bedroom and annoying the neighbours.

I have always loved The Blues. To know where you are going, you need to understand where it all came from! Blues is where it all comes from. I like the old Delta blues of Mississippi Fred McDowel, Robert Johnson, Son House etc. I also love the fingerstyle players like Mississippi John Hurt, Skip James et al. More recently I like stuff like The White Stripes, Seasick Steve, Son Of Dave, Ben Prestage and The Black Keys. My earliest recollection of hearing the blues was watching the film Porgy and Bess and hearing the song Summertime and being blown away by the amount of emotion being portrayed in the song. Later on (late 60's) I discovered the early songs by The Rolling Stones and that was it! I then wanted to find out where they got their influences and discovered Muddy Waters! From there I wanted to find his roots and found myself finding delta recordings by Son House etc.

I was surfing around on YouTube looking for video tutorials on Blues Slide Guitar and came across some videos of these dudes making guitars out of old Cigar Boxes. The while DIY attitude of making your own instrument and music took me back to my days as a punk. I soon got the bug and now own four CBG's. I have an addiction but at least it is not drugs or booze. Just an addiction to sticks in boxes.

Recently I have been putting together a set of blues standards which I plan to gig with while writing my own stuff.

I am mainly a player but make the odd mod's to my guitars.

Norm,

Good job on Walkin Blues, Son's Blues etc above.  I might try sometime to learn Son's Blues....  So many good songs.   Hey, Sir, I stole your idea regarding calling Brickdust's box, 'the box a' blues.'   Made one myself.   It is in my photos.

Hi Norm - Thanks for your comment on that recent vid recorded by one of my work colleagues. You asked about the lick at the start - I think it's a bit of my 3 string version of little red rooster. It goes - strum all strings open, then slide up to the 5th, 3rd then open, then up to the 12th on the top string. That's about it. Let me know how you get on.

Got some even more "off the wall" ideas, involves micing up various everyday objects with a home made piezo mic and "playing" them. Got ideas on "playing" my workshop first. Ha!

Ian Siegal and Ben Prestage - Dingwalls 25/11/2010

Posted on November 26, 2010 at 4:30am 1 Comment

So Siby and I went to see Ian Siegal supported by Ben Prestage at Dingwalls in Camden Lock. It's only half an hour by cab from home. One of the advantages of living so near to town.

We got to Camden at about 4pm and wandered about for a while. Lots of interesting stalls and shops to look in but not all of them a wheelchair friendly. Had dinner in a Wetherspoons washed down with two Leffe's.

Dingwalls was great. Good view for wheelchairs and right…

My License Plate Reso

Posted on October 30, 2010 at 11:07am 18 Comments

So my License Plate Reso is not selling. Don't get me wrong, it looks as cool as hell. I just don't think I like the way it sounds. So I am going to do something about it. I am going to modify it into something else that I can use. I have a really nice Reso built by Shane Wagstaff who is also on The Nation. It's a sweet sweet sounding box. So I will have a go a modding the License Plate Reso myself into a non Reso with a mag Pup.…

Cool idea for a build.

Posted on October 21, 2010 at 3:29am 7 Comments

Cool idea for a build if only I could hammer a nail into a piece of wood straight! Maybe I could get someone to build it?

1. Buy a decent Ouija Board from Ebay. One made from wood rather than card. One with the letters burned into the wood maybe?
2. Use it as the top of the guitar box.
3. Tune it to the so called 'devils tuning' and see if it inspires me to write something dark!

About time I did something

Posted on September 30, 2010 at 12:30am 6 Comments

So I have been thinking for a while that I really should do something with my music again. I used to love being in a band when I was young. And I got pretty good at it as well. Years of wheelchair use have left me with numb fingers so a CBG with a slide is ideal. I have always liked listening to blues and also have a background in Punk. So something along the lines of Seasick Steve, Hollowbelly and even Son Of Dave would be something I would like to try. Maybe an Akai Headrush peddle and a… Continue
