I'm trying to work up a very short scale (prob. 19.5") CBG that should be able to fly on most airlines without them batting an eye at the case as a carry-on. In my quest to reduce length while…Continue
"James Pobog...I mean, you technically probably COULD but I surely wouldn't advise anyone to do so. The Russ used something during the early part of the 20th to pack rifles that was the equivalent of our cosmoline and was reputedly a mixture of…"
"I never remember that whole silly thing with the HTML tab. :)
Andrew, it's just about impossible for anybody to diagnose without a bit more information, sorry. I could guess that something is snubbing against the strings and muting…"
"Ben, on that 5-stringer, are you having to put any sort of bracing on the lid of the cigar box? I'm just curious about the tension involved as it doesn't look like you've got the neck running through the box."
"I split a set of PBass pickups that I got from C.B.Gitty and placed them in neck and bridge positions. I wired them to a 4-way switch I got from Stewmac.com that gives me each pickup separate, both in parallel and both in series. These pickups work…"
"DavidL, thank you very much for that detailed response!
That gave me everything I needed to know and helped me to understand PUPs a little better, too. I remembered vaguely that humbuckers were paired singles that were modified to cancel each other,…"
The PBass pickups are two single coiled 4 pole pickups where one is reverse wound and the magnet flipped so together they make a humbucking pickup that cancels out the electric hum that single coil pickups get.
So to answer your question if…"
I vaguely remember mention of this on some youtube video, somewhere, in order to provide a 4-pole pickup for a 4-stringer, but I can't find the video in question and may even be misremembering who it was (likely!).I remember it sounded good.Has anyone tried this? Does anyone have any thoughts/suggestions/recommendations? I can follow a plan and can avoid making a huge mess with a soldering iron but I'm hardly an electrician!See More

"The answer to the first question depends on whether you're planning to do a piezo (senses vibration of the box) build or a magnetic pickup (senses vibration of the strings) build. The former benefits from the nice resonance of good acoustic…"
