Lyra

"I love those Lyra labels... bought a few, myself.  I'll use copies on my own work and keep the originals.   I scanned one and modified it to say "harp", for use on a cigar box harp still under construction. :)"

The markings on the bottom of paper-covered boxes

For those of you who use the wooden bottoms of the paper-covered boxes as soundboards, what do you do with/about any markings on the bottom?  For example, on the Arturo Fuente boxes, there's a "burnt" scroll shape with full brand name and serial number.  Could I sand it off without damaging the bottom?  I really have no idea how thick the layers are in the plywood on those.  I also have an Aroma de Cuba mi Amor that I plan on using in such a way that both the top and bottom would be visible,…See More

I have an interest in woodworking and a desire to make inexpensive instruments for lower income families. CBG's look relatively easy to put together, easily customized, and cheap to get the parts. Plus, I just love folk instruments, and have an interest in clowning and thought something like this would go well with a hobo clown character.

Jeffrey, I scored big time on some white Corian to make nuts if you are interested.  I pulled about 12 feet out of the trash at a company that builds cabinets.  What I like about using the Corian is that I can file it after installing it and fine tune my action.  I cut it on a chop saw or you can use a hand saw.  Let me know and I'll drop you off a chunk next time I'm over in Stage Coach

Jeffrey, I was in King Dollar in Tomball yesterday and saw they had some Stainless Steel dog dishes, 6 in in diameter for a buck and a quarter.  They were pretty decent.

Just got time to go over my page and take a peek at what else is on this site.  I think I'll have plenty of folks to get good info from.  Have you been playing a CBG long?  I've never played one and sucked at slide guitar on my six string.  Hoping less strings will help.

Hi Jeffrey. Sorry I didn't see your post. We were travelling but now at home. Nice to know there is someone else with the same interests living nearby. I can't make up my mind on building a 3-string or a 4-string so I think I'll build both. Always looking for advice and input.

Welcome to the insanity of CBGs - I'm in the Spring side of Houston and a novice builder myself. Looking forward to seeing what you come up with.
