Folks:I am fairly certain I'm not the only player/assembler in the Puget Sound region. The Seattle Folklife Festival has NEVER had a CBG band or player on stage. It might take a year or two for a…Continue

Good morning folks:The diddley bow is the first musical instrument I've ever picked up and felt good about noodling with. I spent a fair chunk of my childhood in New Orleans, and my weekends were…Continue

What do you find most interesting about cigar box guitars? (If you do not enter something meaningful here, your membership may be rejected).
That I can learn to make music on CBGs despite having carpal tunnel in both hands, and grateful that I have found an instrument that doesn't require the ability to learn to read musical notation. The community is supportive, the Manifesto inspiring, and this is the happiest Internet community I've seen.Started with a CB Gitty cigar box diddley bow, got Bluesboy Jag to build me a "dulcitar", and I'm working on a dutar with drone (3 string) Central Asian style instrument.Learning to palm and plectrum mute and understanding how long to sustain a note is a lot of fun, if somewhat frustrating.

FInished Build!

Posted on February 23, 2017 at 5:58pm 0 Comments

Finished my Sound Box Guitars kit two weeks ago! Slide only 3 string, tuned Galax style (to "G" with all 3 strings), ring Voodoo slide on order. Created antiqued Chinese lacquer finish look with two coats of acrylic paint-black base coat with metallic/bright red top coat. Shall post images once the film is developed. Added 3 brass tacks to stop the strings from cutting into the neck on the front of the guitar at the tailpiece.

Completed my Sound Box Guitars kit 3 string slide cbg last night! I need to fit a piece of brass or a small brass nail as a "stop" to prevent the strings from tearing into the wood where the strings comes through to the front of the neck, but other than that, and lowering the action with a smaller diameter bolt, it is done. Going to leave this one purely acoustic, at least for now. Thanks to my friends Helen and Larry for handling the power tools for the build. I'll post images as soon as I…
