Can Jo Consortium

The simplest little resonator instrument of all. Please add links to plans, photos of your canjos and ideas you've found that make the most of this diminutive instrument.(The image is a temporary placeholder, I'll replace it any day now!)See More

Diddley Bows and Other Primitives

A place to discuss one-string diddley bows, washtub basses, washboards and any other primitive instrument that may fall outside the Cigar Box realm.

They are fun and easy to build although real music instruments. I think the are perfect for playing blues and folk music.

I realise that I’ve omitted to update my profile ... so far I’ve build :

2 ukuleles & 5 cigar box guitars

not including other instruments I had build a long time ago (40 years or so 😯) : 1 Renaissance Lute and 1 Epinette des Vosges (french version of the dulcimer)

I’ve also build two solid state micro-amplifiers and a valve one - base on a kit and housed in a 1930 radio cabinet.

Incidentally I’ve also repaired an Italian mandolin a friend of mine had unfortunately broken !

My new projects would be : a mocking 2 strings Fender Pbass, a Diddley bow for my grandson, a steampunk style guitar and a new valve amplifier !

cheers Didier

PS I promise to update my photo gallery ASAP 😎

(wound, plain, nylon, bass, etc.) D & G are popular tunings for them, but there are no rules when it comes to one string :) cheers!
