Hi Dan, to use this thing you just need to cut the 1/8 plug off and wire it to the pickup you need to wire both wire as the plug is stereo , I have not tried it on a piezo disk yet. This is neat because of the rechargeable battery. You could build your own Lm386 chip amp. this amp would not make you happy as the low voltage means low volume.
if you really want a good onboard amp try one of Bens amp kits

You're welcome, Dan. I talked to Randy Bretz yesterday about your problem, and it turns out the bridge saddle not only needs to be making full contact with the rod, but the rod needs to be under pressure. String tension is usually enough pressure to make it work.
