Herr Borve, Yes, my ancestors all came from Scandinavia. Mom's great grandparents from Reinoy Island up by Tromso, Norway. I haven't had any luck finding out where Grandpa Peter Swenson came from in Sweden but I have the date he arrived in USA and I think also the name of the ship.
I don't actually speak Svenska but I have a little iPhone App called GoSwedish and have been learning a few words. I hope to travel there to see the motherland before I get too old!
Where in Norway are you from? I've been having fun on Google earth looking at Norway, Sweden and Denmark. They have a street view of your town so I took a tour! It looks like a nice town. People there take pride in keeping their property clean and neat. I like that. My wife, me and our dog live in the country near several small towns in central Minnesota. Verndale, Wadena area...take a look!

I'm glad you studied about the Lind. Yes, Basswood is used for carving duck decoys and all sorts of things here.
Ha! Bow neck CBGs!!! Maybe you invented a new instrument! You can use the wood for making your own boxes. You just have to cut thinner strips and laminate them side by side. If you look at some of the pictures on my CBN page, you'll see some boxes I made out of narrow pine strips glued together. Good Luck.
I must say thousend thanks to you JP Swenson! To begin with,when I looked up the name (Lind,in Swedish) to trancelate it to English,I first thaght It was something wrong...! Obviously this is´nt the kind of tree producing limes,It´s simular to American Basswood. The man that I got the wood from,said it probably was as hard as oak,because when it hit the ground it shaked his house just like when an oak hits the ground...Since reading your question I´ve read about the qualitys of this wood,and it´s used to make for example carvings and even bows...! It´s good for bending..It is used in guitars to,but only for the body! So thanks again!Your question for sure prevended me from sittng with a lot of "cigar box bows" in the end!! You have saved me a lot of work and pretty many bad words from my mouth to,for sure! Thanks!!! :-)
