This is a base I built some years ago. It´s made out of two sheets of 18mm plywood laminated together. Plywood fretboard and plastic tube for the "soundwell". Cello machine head. Bits and pieces. Relay coil pick up.

The back of the sound well is covered with some kind of plastic skin to act like a drum, kind of. But honestly it doesn´t do much to the sound so i guess its just a well... but you can drum on it ;)
