This is a failure turned playable. The head stock snapped when drilling the tuner peg holes. Now instead of a 25.5 scale, it now has a 20" scale. It sounds pretty good, almost like a banjo.

Hey Stewy, I know with a thin box the solution you chose is a good one. Mountain dulcimers do it your way every day and they sound great. i've not tried a thin box yet. It must be a challenge.
Thanks guys....Dave I was going to have a thru the body neck, but with a 1'depth..I opted for the Uncle Crow style so it wouldn't take away from resonating....well at least that's what I was thinking at the time.
PS... I think you might like getting the neck in your box and go all the way to the tail. Don't attatch the pass through to the top but just on the heal and tail. Put your bridge on the top just where you have it here and you'll get some great acoustic sound.
Good things come from mistakes sometimes. I own a Shane Speal "Chugger" that has an 18" scale and it sounds awesome. Ukuleles of course are little. Size is relative. Nice looking rig Uncle Crow. I like the patina on that top.
