I was asked to make a fella a CBG. He picked out the box and we talked about what he wanted. This was the end result. Video to come soon. 3 string, acoustic/electric, piezo/capacitor, 24" scale, 17 frets, internal spring, pine neck, oak fretboard, walnut bridge, corion nut.

  • Jock, no, I initially cut the headstock as I usually do when I don't do a scarf and I thought it was not thick enough so I attached oak to the back. Usually I do this with the same half that has been cut off, but because this is old pine I wanted to be sure I had enough strength behind the peghead for 4 strings. Thanks Uncle John. This was my first torched wood and I think I did alright. I had been wanting to do torching, but needed the right build. When Tank, (the buyer), wanted this green color then I thought, wow, I wonder how it would look to do a torch then stain it green. He was on board with it. He has seen pics and is pleased with the result.

  • Looking at the side view, is the headstock a separate piece glued to the neck?

  • Yup, mighty fine neck too.  Good thing his name was not Alexander Robert.

  • Thanks for the kind words fellas. Brian, I am not a machine, but I do enjoy building. I take my time it seems because I work full time and most the time I use on build is on the weekend. I am finishing up the King Edward too. Both of these boxes were from a house that the grown children were throwing decades of stuff away. I saved about 9 King Edward boxes, but this was the only Swisher. I agree Uncle John, this was the first time seeing a Swisher box. I think it is from the 70's, like the Dutch Masters I have had.  The personalization came from the idea of the buyer. He ask me about putting his name on the neck, when I asked him about the font style, he showed my his tattoo and asked for something like that. I enjoy working with a buyer in this fashion.

  • I don't know if they are still around, but a lot of guys used to smoke Swishers.  I was never much of a smoker, but did puff on a couple of Swishers.  I don't think I have ever seen a Swisher box.

  • Nice, the back of the neck as well! That swishers box reminds me of Shane’s 1st cbg. Good to see  you’re still cranking em out lonman!

  • A very neat looking personalised build!

  • Winner in the armored division.  I like it all.  Box, top to bottom, colors and lettering. Even my fave string count.
