The latest electro acoustic three string cigar box guitar from Joe at Diddley Bros. This guitar has a 24.5" scale length and features 24 frets for the first and second strings due to the fingerboard which overlaps the box. This was our first time trying an overlapping fingerboard; not only is it functional, it looks blinking cool too. With a zero fret in the nut slot the action is pretty low and great for playing finger-style as well as being just right for slide too.Fret position inlays are made from brass nails and polished so that they are flush with the hand-sawn poplar fingerboard. The neck itself is fully profiled from red grandis hardwood, a through neck design which stops on a support just inside the box.The headstock is one of the main features of the guitar. It was born of a mistake in shaving a little too much wood from the sides when trying to tidy up the scarf joint. It took quite a lot of 'faff' to come up with a design that worked. Poplar was eventually added to the sides of the point and after more pondering the final almost oak leaf shape was formed. The shape of the headstock would have well suited a four string guitar, however the neck itself was to narrow to comfortable accommodate four strings. So being confined to three strings a red bead was added to the front of the headstock only to even out its appearance. It's both an odd and nice little feature. The neck and headstock lacquered with polyurethane and rubbed out to a mirror finish. The colours of the woods and metals used are very much reflected within the box's own design.Over all it has a beautiful appearance with is matched only by its sound. You can follow us at www.facebook.com/diddleybros for more photos and videos of the builds my brother and I create.
