A four-string ukulele neck is wider than 1" x 2" poplar stock, so it is necessary to build the neck out by laminating other strips in it. This will also improve the strength of the neck; however, that is not usually a major concern with short necks like those on a uke. But it can't hurt!The head-stock blank is next; it is a scarf joint.
