it worked, but at very low rpm. Now I just wind up the coil -> measuring the resistancein ohm -> dividing it by the nominal wire resistance in ohm per meter -> dividing the total meters by the length of one winding and you get an approximate numer of windings
Hello Ellwood, thank you for your comments. I used this very basic winder in my early beginning. Now I wind the pups with a lathe. That old handwinder had a small motor at the back, powered by a battery and a speed potentiometer. I geared it down from the motor to a wheel made of a marmelade glass lid. Mitor and lid were connected by a rubber ring. At the side that is shown here the pup is fixed to the axle of the lid-wheel. It is not necessary to attach the wire coil to the winder - simply put it down to the ground, facing upwards. The wire shall be easily be unwound from there. The calculator counter is more an unnecessary hacker-gadget..
pickup handwinder. the calculator-counter is set on "1"; each full round the "enter" increments the counter by one. Will go and get a small motor and 2 wheels to gear down the speed.
