  • Wow sounds great, lol I love tape recordings. I'm no great shakes at singing, I just use what God has given me the best I know how to glorify Him. Our church is usually a 50-50 mix of 3 chord southern gospel (mostly from heavenly highway hymns) and modern contemporary. I love it all- my favorite is the real bluegrassy stuff we play sometimes. I'll have to check that YouTube out too
  • That should be  I'm a rubbish "singer" of course

  • That sounds teriffic. I'm not so good at the modern CCM - too many chords and stupid timings. I'm just an old time 3 chord folk picker. The church we have just started attending has a well established collection of musicians (including a really good guitarist) who sound ok, so I'm not sure if I'll be joining them. With people leaving and other youngsters going off to uni they are short of folk to operarate the mixing desk and overhead, so I might do that instead. Nor sure yet if they are ready for cbgs!! O yes, and I'm a rubbish sing which you'll hear if you find me on You Tube, ichthusbanjoman, some recordings I did 30+ years ago on a little tape recorder in my living room, just for fun!

  • keith i'm easing my church into cbgs too. I normally lead worship with a team of vocalists, myself singing and playing guitar and a drummer. last night my vocalists and drummer were all sick, so i broke out the stompbox and high-hat and gave em' some one man band worship lol! it won't be long before six strings becomes three

  • Sorry your business is slow. Mine is very slow to almost non existent. But i get a commission now and then and earn some extra cash. I sell old ukuleles that i fix up on ebay also. That works pretty well though i don't really earn much if anything. But i get to fuss with the old ukes and bring many back to life. I love it when an instrument comes back to life and makes music again. I just wood fired some pots today. That's my real business. I'm a potter. Never has been a way to make much money, but it has sustained me for many years. Your Meccano interest sounds fun. I love toy trains and have a collection. I may start selling it on ebay as well. Just a little at a time. I like messing with them. Have fun tonight at your music group. I play Monday nights regularly. ... Dave

  • That's exactly the trouble Dave, the recession here in the UK has put my business in a lot of debt - fortunately the cbgs are not expensive to build so I can do that as a way of relaxing, along with my Meccano. www.moraymeccanomodellers.org.uk

I'll be going along to our Church music group rehearsal tomorrow night for the first time - don't think they will be ready for cbgs yet, so conventional six string ---- for now!!!!

  • No one can afford to retire. You just have to do it. Poverty ain't so bad if you don't have debt. I don't owe anything except taxes and insurance. I don't have med. insurance, but i think in many ways that that is a good thing. Keeps me out of the hospital. I've not had it since 1991. Still kickin in my stall. Now i've got Medicare if shit hits... old fart....

  • Lucky you Dave, I have 2 years, 1 month and 9 days before I officially retire! if I can afford to.

  • I haven't either. I've got some nice ones, but I've got some nice spruce for tops too. I love the antique boxes like the one you used. I'm semi retired, so i've got nice time for it. I just poke along. No factory work for me anymore. Keep making these nice guitars. ...

  • I've only made 4 with two more in the workshop waiting for tuners and frets, but lots more in my head. Every time I see a new one on CB Nation I want to make make one! Trouble is, working for a living gets in the way!! Likewise I have mostly made the boxes - haven't actually used a cigar box yet!!
