I've finally started to convert this smashing old radio into a retro guitar amp. I've bought a cheap little practice amp that has a great sound for such a small size, and I'm in the process of installing the workings into the radio.

It did have a working valve radio, but I was far too scared of electrocution to even think about hacking the thing.

I still haven't decided whether to leave the existing speaker in, or install the newer one from the amp. I suppose I'll try them both and see which I like the sound of better.

Doug, that's a great idea. I've already taken out the valves cleaned them up and started thinking about how to put it all together.

Cheers, Wes.

I'm not sure about the old speaker. I was chatting to a bloke who runs a small music shop, and he reckons that it might not have as wide a frequency range as a modern speaker. All middle with little or no top and bottom, perfect for crappy radio broadcasts in the late 50s but not suited to a guitar amp.

I suppose I'll have to wait and see.
