They make nice looking amps too. Disc piezo... I need to try a rod piezo but hesitate since I know I need to get the bridge in the perfect spot for intonation before drilling a hole... but now that I have a few builds I have a better idea how much to compensate.

Yup on your rationale. A moveable bridge is a plus for fretted builds.
