Once the frets have been notched I'll trim the neck to the fingerboard then carve the head. I may have jumped ahead a bit or forgotten a step but it should all work though I'm now wondering what I'd have to do if the headstock is too thick? Well, there's always sandpaper.

Looks good man, by the looks of it your headstock seems to be right around a half inch thick which is the minimum you'd want. You do have to go a little thicker if your gonna use slotted style tuners though. Are you gonna bother with truss rods or are these for 3 or 4 stringers? I've been using the Martin style square 1/2 in tube steel/ none adjustable, plenty good as far as Im concerned. Happy building, anxious to see the finished product.

I've thinned headstocks out with a smoothing plane. Mark the depth then clamp it so the stock is parallell to the workbench, plane away.
I've also tried the table saw. Blech. Overkill.
