Thought I'd see if this style rather than the neck-through version will work. The plan is to connect these to a neck block inside the box. I think I may need to reinforce the box a bit. Planning to do just that in the corners. Any thoughts?

Yeah, I'm curious to see how it all pans out. If nothing else, I'm learning a load about carving necks. I plan to build a u shaped channel to accept the tongue inside the box. I'll be drilling holes in the tongue and insert a cross dowel. The screw will go through the u channel into the hole and engage the cross dowel. that'll secure it but then I have to figure out about the string tension on the face or cigar box top. This is all an experiment. The next group will go back to the neck-thru style. Thanks for taing a look. New pictures coming. I would be more concerned with the longitudinal stresses, than the corners. You need to replace the strength of the neck through part with light cross bracing, etc. Your Corners are already the strongest point on your box! Having the top cave in from the longitudinal bending stresses is a more likely scenerio. Check out how Luthiers do it at.... luthierforum.com.
