I think you will be surprised at how well a player side sound hole works with that think wood.  The sound comes right up toward your face.  I use an inch and a quarter hole cutter.

That 1/8 inch ply is great.   Half a dozen years or more back, I was in the local lumber yard and they had most of a full sheet of 1/4 inch play that had split into two sheets of 1/8 inch ply.  I got it cheap and it has been very useful.

Unc--I scrounged some 1/8" ply for this one. I typically just use what I can lay my hands on. Newer plates made from aluminium w/no raised lettering are nice for backs putting the blank side out. I haven't put sound holes in mine... I need to try that.

I can't tell what you used for the player side wood.   I've built a couple home made boxes with 3/4 inch stock on 3 sides and braced thin ply on the player side with a player side sound hole.  My last LPG done that way has good acoustic volume and tone.
