My first guitar

Not quite finished but playable, so now I have to learn to play it. Montecristo cigar box, mahogany neck (part of a table I think), fingerboard is part of a broken stool (not sure what the wood is) and some bits of ebony for the nut, bridge and tail. Two piezo pickups hence the twin exhausts. One is a disk under the lid and the other is under the brass rod that functions as a saddle.

Hi Donovan.

Thanks for the comment. Maybe you took the same approach as I did. The first two were really preparation for the third. The first to see if I could make something that would actually make noise, the second one to practice fretting and then the third one pretty much as I had planned from the start.

Hi there Uncle John.

Thanks very much. This one isn't really getting much attention since I finished the fretted one. I might try different strings on it and see if I can give it a bit more of what the other one has. This has medium acoustic and the newer one has light electric. I might put some lighter strings on and see what happens.

Hi Mark. I used a 1.25" milling cutter. Just let it tickle the surface for a little and then take it in gradually. I intended to do just one big hole, but once I did it I realised why most people don't do that. On an oblong box it makes it look like a bird nesting box. Not a good look at all. I cut the other holed as an act of desperation and a way of getting away from the bird box look (and to stop determined finches from trying to nest in it).

I like the soundholes - elegantly individualistic. What did you use to cut the big one?

Hi Stefan. Yes. Though an ex bow maker for many years now. How are you? I looked at the members map to see if there were any other members near to me but don't see you there in the London area. I have also had a look at the pictures of some of your instruments and they look fantastic. You have obviously been involved with this for a while. Good to hear from you.
