  • Forgot to add, the circuit board, jacks, battery & speaker from the kit all fit into an Altoid’s box. That’s why it’s called the Minty amp?

  • The Minty Amp was a kit amp that might have blown the Smokey amp out of the water if the Inventor had marketed it right? Bruce Zinky of Smokey amps didn’t actually invent the Smokey amp circuit, he took it straight from the suggested schematics on the original LM386 data sheet? so really the only thing he invented was putting an amp in an empty cigarette box?

  • Hi, just wondering if this is a clone what was the original

  • Electronics store or internet? Unfortunately there’s no more electronics stores in my area, so I have to source parts online. Maybe you have one in your area?

    • Mouser electronics , Arrow, Diga-key, Mammoth-U.S based
    • ( premiumpricing/higher minimum order)
    • Tayda electronics- U.S./Thailand (economy pricing/low minimum order/fast shipping)
  • never made one, but willing to try. How/Where can I get parts?
  • I'll be keeping an eye out for them Brian .

  • Merv,I’m stating with this cuz it’s easier, but I have the Lil’ Gem & Ruby amps on deck as well as the Smokey ;) just spreading them out, instead of posting all at once.

  • Mike,I’ll see what I can do? PM me

  • It’s a gain control, not volume. My original from Minty uses a linear which dials up the gain smoother than an audio taper. I’ve arrived at the linear cuz it sounds better & is original to the circuit, which is what I was going for , even tho I did change it by making the gain control a pot rather than a trimmer , it’s only rock n roll, right? Cheers

  • Made several of these little amps using LM386 amp and they sound very good. Pre amp transistor add on well worth while but FET would be even better. Can I just mention the volume control is normally a LOG type rather than Linear
