Little Gem

Schematic from runoffgroove.com. Box is 3.75" x 3.75" x 1.75", external power. I took it down to my friendly music store, we plugged in a Strat, and the little thing drove a 4x10 cab with authority! Inlaid rhinestone just for nice; brass picked up in the street.

  • That is the coolest thing that I have ever seen. Its beautiful.
  • << need to know more whats this thing running on 9v or 110 and how about the board? same local dealer? >>

Just any old perfboard, RS or anybody has it; I don't go for the pre-coated stuff, but your pick. Some like it; let me know how it works for you.

It's using 9v, through a RS 110v-to-9v wall-plug transformer (something like $15). The cool thing is, it comes with a two-connector end with available interchangeable plugs so you can match your plug to the jack - this is a Type "N", if I recall - and you can change polarity! Yay! My Honeytone is a different polarity from the Little Gem, so I just turn the plug around, and 'voila', as they say in Gay Paree. (Or I could always re-solder my Little Gem's jack around to match, but that sounds like work.) This charger over here's got a different jack, so I get another plug, change them out, and I'm good there. What a great little planet!
  • << Where did you buy your pots and caps? >>

Here in Eugene, at Norvac, an electronics parts house, for new parts and helpful advice from real humans leaning on the counter. There should be some place similar practically anywhere - check the Yellow Pages and support local businesses when you can!
  • Where did you buy your pots and caps?
  • Super work on the amp by the way!
  • Some rough area you live in eh? Be careful collecting materials, keep low!!!
  • Evidence of something. Like I said, there must be some rat abatement program going on.
  • brass picked up the street? is that evidence? lol
