@Uncle John Thanks! The old fretboard was painted. I tried to preserve the patina best I could by covering it with a layer of shellac. I might should have oiled it instead.
I am glad you did not clean that up more or paint it etc. From the pic it looks like oiling the fret board might be a good thing.
