  • Say Bob, thanks for that link to Suntekstore. I've bought from them on ebay, but the store is nice for one stop shopping. Their stuff is so reasonable. I've had good luck with everything I got from them.

  • HOLY SCHNIKIES!  That is BEAUTIFUL!

  • Thanks for the comment.  As I continue to put this thing together I am seeing where a Lipsitck tube would be better.  I've made it so streamline on the backside that I am not going to have a good way to hide the wires that will be under the bridge for a piezo.  I Might even go with hum-bucking pickup just to reduce the possibilities of an electronic hum.   I'll keep posting as the build moves along, but it is on hold for now.

  • Tim,

That looks very promising.  I like the tuners mounted on the body.  I went to suntekstore.com to send you the link for the pickup I used and they don't seem to have them anymore, which is a shame because they work so well.  I have one more for my bass project and then I'm out.  It was a thin rectangular piezo that sits under the bridge.  If I find a new source, I will let you know.  Keep on building. and sending photos.

  • Thanks,  I have it in rough form now.  It started as a CBB but the Headless tuners I tried did not work.  So I went to a Solid Oak board.  I'll get some photos tonight.  Thanks!  I just love this place!  Go CBG!!

  • Tim,

I used a bridge piezo from Suntekstore.com that was listed as a cello pickup, but is actually a bass pickup.  It works very well with no feedback or noise.  Sounds great plucked or bowed.  Cost is under $10 with free shipping. I am planning a bass for a friend, but I think It will have conventional tuners to keep cost down.  Good luck with your project- I would love to see it when it is finished.

  • Did you use a bridge Piezo?  I'm making a solid body headless base and was curious to know if you did use a piezo pickup, do you get the noise from touching or bumping the base? If so is it bad?  I'm thinking on using a Bridge Piezo and a Lipstick tube pickup.  Yours really looks sweet.  Oh, I had the same thought with a camera tripod.  Just seemed logical to me..  Great job on yours.

  • On my latest build I got two body blanks out of the same plank of African Mahogany. So I have a body in reserve. When I get book matched sets of tonewood I use one half at a time. It cuts the costs in half and you get to use the beautiful wood twice....

  • Actually Dave, I do have the other half (which is cherry) waiting for a second build, but I have a bass in the planning stages that will come first.
