  • Andy, they say imitation is the ultimate form of flatery, so with that I'm gonna have to say I must use your idea on my next gitbox!
Soooo friggin' cool, nice job man.
  • Very HOT indeed! The "anatomically" correct portion of the cut-out is especially impressive, considering how difficult it is to make that "fine" of a cut in the wood. Excellent work! Looks cool!
  • Thanks for the kind words guys! Here is a photo showing the tools I used to make the sound hole. I started with a brad tip drill to start and then roughed with the fine dremel bits (iv'e had them forever, they may not be by dremel). If you brace your hand an not try to cut too quickly, you can get pretty close to the finished shape (takes a little practice though). This one had some tight sections too small for the bits, so I turned to my fine rifler and jeweler's files to finish up and smooth out the final shape. I used the x-acto to do the sharp inside corners. The top is fairly thin - about 1/8" thick, haven't tried to cut sound holes in anything thicker than that.

  • I saw on your comments that you used an exact-o knife to cut the hole - is it a pretty thin box? I've tried using my dremel to cut F-holes, it's very difficult, unless I'm doing something wrong.
  • I see patients is your virtue! Great and delicate job on that sound hole, I would have loved to seen it done. Thanks for the pics.
  • sweet..the best sound hole i ever saw
