  • There is no cutting across the grain, IF grains going vertical when watching headstock from front.
I know , that idea lower grains in top but they bigger going to down, where is tuners.

When grains going vertical ( when you watch wood piece from front ) , they hold better strings tension, am i right Josh?

I use that idea with Dark Sumatra, i am now tuned it GDgd, it´s work but i am gonna test it also AEae.
If it is going broke, i must use much time to fix that or forget them and start new project :)
  • I hope at this is enough strong, i don´t know yet.

My next CBG neck headstock is now maded that way. so let see :)

If you lookin neck from front and grains going horizontal way,
that is weak style but if grains going vertical, i suppose it is then stronger.
Then that style not going across grains.

But ... let see, maybe this going broke :/

That idea what i see in local guitar shop was Swap Stomber Dobro, there might be was a glued join too
( getting bigger bent ) but i modified that idea little.
  • Thats right....most people dont realize that if you try to break piece of wood with a properly glued joint it will break almost anywhere except where its glued.
  • You would only want to do something like this if the neck was quatersawn or constructed of laminate pieces. Cutting across the grain in this fashion is actually weaker than a glued scarf joint.
