Fourth Build

I was up in the attic above the garage getting the Christmas supplies for my wife when I found an old violin case that we've carried around from coast to coast over the years. Inspecting the violin, I found that the neck was in pretty rough shape. We had originally picked it up at a junk store to use as a display piece before storing it away.Anyway, I looked at the box and figured "What the heck..." It took less than a day to build up a neck and slider fret board. I already had tuners and strings and a brass cabinet hinge painted black seemed to look correct. It is tuned GDG and sounds great!. That violin body resonates really well and produces a lot of volume. There is a 27mm piezo inside that works well with the rest of the build. This could become my favorite slider.

  • Nice!!! I've read Stradivarius/Stradivari's Violin's are very famous Villon's and worth $$$$ "if genuine". Theres been thousands made as a tribute to the Genuine Stradivarius.
  • That's nice!

  • Wow it sounds awesome! Great remake.
  • Love the look of this guitar, really eye catching.
  • Beautiful work! Love all of it.

  • Thanks Bob.

    It does sound good...........

  • That is so cool

  • Bluesheart, this one is quickly taking first place for favorite slider. The box really resonates and sounds nice.

  • Great job on that, bet it sounds awesome!

  • Funny you mentioned Strat. I think every violin built in the last 100 years has a Stradivarius sticker inside the box when you can just see it through the "F" holes. I think if you read closely, it says something like "Stradivarius Style" whatever that means.

I carefully cut the neck from the body, but left a portion of the little heal that enters the box. I cut it down so that the new neck sat on top of it so I could run a screw through this heel into the bottom of the neck. Let me know if you want a bottom side photo.
