From the start I planned to use a hard tail, but then i buried a piezo rod deep down between the bridge and the neck. I may follow your advice and pint the hinge black, just for a start.
Yup, I often use what I have too. No hurry, but I hope you find a prettier one. I make them out of sheet metal. Just painting this one black would do a lot.

That would likely do the trick. I tend to get critical when they are soooo close to greatness. Like this one.

Really nice except I think this hinge tail piece does not go well with the otherwise beautiful guitar.
