Elmar pickup on a ratty old fiber box CBG

I had the Elmar on a prettier build with a wood box. Even though I had strengthened that old box, it developed cracks and problems. The Elmar was set aside. I was looking for a proper home to install it on. This git is an odd choice. It looks like an old beater and is. But good playing old beaters suit me for my personal players. You know how sometimes boxes sound better or worse than you think they should? This one has always been nice to play and sounded good either acoustic or with a piezo.Yesterday, I pulled the trigger and used the Elmar on this git. It sounds growly good. At least for now, it suits me to a T.Thanks for looking.

  • My brass covered pup is lower. About 3/16 lower than the fretboard and works loud and proud.

  • Hey Dave, the flatpup I have is brass covered. How much lower than the strings do you mean? ie: if I mount it in the neck position just after the last fret, should the pup be flush with the fretboard?
  • Monterey, i've got several Elmar pups on box guits i've made. Mine work good lower down from the strings. They are hot little devils and very good in my opinion. I like my metal covered unit the best as i can't strike the pickup. You'll love yours i bet. I've asked Tony about the door washer. He has two so i think i can get you one. He didn't know what to charge. So that slowed things up. I'll ask again this evening when he comes over.

  • Thanks Uncle- going to mount it just after the last fret in the neck position even with the fretboard then
  • It is about even with the finger board.   I think you have to be moderately close to the strings, but not so close the strings or pick will strike it.

  • Hey Uncle, so do you mount the Elmar pickup flush with the fretboard? I'm going to use one on the Mountain Dulcimer
  • Thanks, M.  I think it's a pretty good match.

  • That is a real nice looking guitar, Uncle! The box is really classy, it looks like it belongs with the fretboard and the flatpup
  • Sounds purty good too, Dave.  Thanks!

  • Bring on the funk Uncle. Looks just right.
