  • Good point. I though the shellac would harden it up a bit too and keep it from soaking up hand oils and getting dirty , it is pretty soft wood, plus I wanted to give it  more aged look, like maybe it had been varnished many times over the centuries.

  •  Ah interesting. Pressed makes it stronger anyway where carving makes it weaker :)

  • I also tune it Dgd for some variety.

  • I think  the fretboard is actually "pressed" but it looks like it is carved, the grooves of the design are indented, then I put on amber shellac. The fretboard came from Michaels arts and crafts in the "Basswood" bin.
