Wow, what a beautiful finish. I'd call it "Patience". Few have it to do something like this. It looks like real aluminum. Jeeze Louise.

Hi Dave,

Ahh.....yes indeed, what Gretsch call the 'shed roof' finish.....and EXACTLY what I was trying to achieve!! The nice thing with how it turned out is that fine 'texture' the metallic paint has, which is uniform all over the guitar due to the extensive prepping, so smooth but kinda tactile, just like a glass bead blasted motorcycle crankcase. Thanks Dave, that you mentioned the Gretsch finish has made my day! Happy New Year to you and yours, by the way, and to The Nation!

The final topcoat of acrylic gloss aluminium silver applied. This is when all the hard work getting the prep right pays off, and it's all over so fast it's almost like an anticlimax after all the time prepping! I sprayed outdoors in the back garden (like many of us have to!) so picking the right day and weather conditions were important.....! A good tip with rattle cans is to makes sure you warm the paint up after giving it a good shake and before use. A few minutes with the can stood in some warm (NOT HOT!!!!.....let's be careful out there folks!) water makes a lot of difference to how well the paint atomises and goes on.....several light coats with a few minutes drying time between works best......go steady, be patient and build the coats slowly. I did nothing more to this top coat once it had cured for a couple of days, just finished with dab of good quality guitar polish and a decent cotton cloth.
