On FB we`ve been discussing ways to distress frets, heat treatment is high on the list. Here I tried with a mapp torch and oil treatment. It comes out with some nice colors, but more experimenting is needed. The top 2 frets in the pic have been heat treated, the bottom fret not.

I loathe FB so haven't and won't see the discussion, with that in mind has anyone thought of case hardening? You could get some color and possibly more durability of the frets. I use charcoal blueing for odd bits and bobs of decor when requested but I don't know if that would work on nickel fret wire.
