Curly maple decision

Ok Nation friends....I took in some curly maple on trade for a CBG. I planned to make a bunch of fretboards with it but after running through the planer and resawing it and then planing it again, I'm wondering if I shouldn't use some to build a box and do some book matching. Looking for some opinions!!!

  • I'm wondering how thin they should be? Right now I have them at 1/4"
  • Yea--what UJ said.  You could bookmatch them and make a really pretty top and back.

  • Plenty big enough. I ended up cutting enough for a box top and making the rest into fret boards. I have a piece of black walnut that I bookmatched and planned to use on a box some day. Now, I'll use this as the face and the walnut as the back.
  • Looks good for a top.  Big enough?  Oooh.  Would make a nice four piece top too.
